"When I talk about being present, I mean it in the most literal sense possible. I mean being in my life. I want my mind to stay inside my head for a little bit. I want my heart to dwell here, in the rooms of my days."
Don't you just love this??? I have always had a great love of quotes & poetry. Since I am the world's worst writer (seriously, that is why I taught math) I always appreciated finding an author who could put into words exactly how I might be feeling or paint a picture of something as real as if it was standing before me. What a gift that is to be able to do that . . . this excerpt was from an article written by Lindsey Mead. She has an awesome blog - A Design So Vast - definitely put this on your reading list!!!
What has been happening - we recently returned from our trip visiting Great Grammy in New York :)
And have been getting ready for fall - I know it is early but seriously, my son is obsessed with the holidays/seasons -
created some fall headbands . . .
some pumpkin faces . . .
some yummy fall cupcakes . . .
my other little man is growing bigger & bigger every day . . .
and already showing me he will not be a willing participant in picture-taking (see how he is covering his face) . . .
On the scrappy front . . .
I am currently under a pile of scrappy goodness - yes I have been scrapping. Since we talked last I have created 2 single page sketches, 2 double page sketches, 3 single page layouts, 3 double page layouts, and a mini album - WHAT???? Can you believe that??? And unfortunately - I can't share any of it - how sad is that??? Soon though, I promise :) And then this little old blog will be overloaded with scrappy pics :) I have lots of fun opportunities coming up this next month as well - one of which has already been posted HERE - so check it out :)
I am working on a little something & on the search for good quotes/poems - comment below with a favorite quote/poem of yours (or a link to it) and be in the running for these 2 awesome punches . . .

"Grandmas never run out of hugs or cookies." ~Author Unknown
I love spending time with my grandson...doing things I never thought I would that involve bugs, dirt, and sweat. I had no idea that being a grandparent would be like this. I cherish every moment.
Great photos Julie.
ReplyDeleteHere is a quote for you:
"Some people say they haven't yet found themselves. But the self is not something one finds; it is something one creates."
- Thomas Szasz
So happy to see that healthy little man!!!
ReplyDeleteI like this quote, especially for a new addition...
A baby will make love stronger, days shorter, nights longer, bankroll smaller, home happier, clothes shabbier, the past forgotten, and the future worth living for. ~Author Unknown
Feel good & can't wait to see all your upcoming projects!
Hey Julie good to hear all is good with you and the little baby bonner! Finn did exatly the same thing with his hands when we had the 3d! Boys!!!

I have two favorite quotes, and I think they both mean the same thing, one is just more light-hearted.
ReplyDeleteTo live is to choose. But to choose well, you must know who you are and what you stand for, where you want to go and why you want to get there.
Kofi Annan
and the other one...
You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going because you might not get there.
Yogi Berra
I can't wait to see all that scrapy goodiness!
One of my favorite quotes is on my blog:
ReplyDelete"Let a joy keep you.
Reach out your hands
--take it when
it runs by."
--Carl Sandburg
Cindy
Oh, Julie.. love that 2nd ultra sound photo!!! I am glad he is doing well and Ryan is having fun with all the fall crafts!! :)
ReplyDeleteMy quote... the beauty of the written word is that it can be held close to the heart and read over and over again.
I can't wait to see what you have been working on!! :)
How about Rlke?
ReplyDeleteAlong the sun-drenched roadside, from the great
hollow half-treetrunk, which for generations
has been a trough, renewing in itself
an inch or two of rain, I satisfy
my thirst: taking the water's pristine coolness
into my whole body through my wrists.
Drinking would be too powerful, too clear;
but this unhurried gesture of restraint
fills my whole consciousness with shining water.
--so many levels to this one, every time I read it, new meaning...
My favorite poem:
ReplyDeleteThe Swing
by Robert Louis Stevenson
How do you like to go up in a swing,
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
Ever a child can do!
Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
River and trees and cattle and all
Over the countryside—
Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown—
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!
Thanks for a chance at one of the punches!!!

Robert Frost is one of my favorite poets. I love "The Road Less Traveled", and "Nothing Gold Can Stay"
ReplyDeleteHi Julie, glad all is well with you. :) I am also big into inspirational quotes. I like this one:
ReplyDeleteThink of your life as a book, with yourself as the main character. Everyone and everything else is secondary. Write your life story the way you want it to play out. I am not sure where exactly I got this from, I have it torn out from a magazine, just not sure which one.
Hi Julie! Congrats on Guest designer! I loved your layouts!
ReplyDeleteHere is a quote I just love and painted on my bathroom wall:
" Life is a journey and only you hold the map"
One more from Winnie the Pooh
" Are we going to be friends forever? asked Piglet, "Even longer" said Pooh"
And from Mark Twain:
"Twenty years from no you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails"
Blessings to you and your family!
I have just started my own collection of quotes! Here is one I found recently...."A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Blessings!
ReplyDelete"You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them." Desmond Tutu
ReplyDeletePosted by Colleen Murray, New Zealand
"Remember the feeling as a child when you woke up and the morning smiled? It's time you felt that way again. Taj Mahal
ReplyDeleteJulie, this makes me think of you waitng to see your new sweet baby- Glad to hear that things are going well for you & yours and also that you feel like scrappin' & sketching again! =-)
My favorite saying...
ReplyDeleteCleaning and scrubbing
can wait 'til tomorrow
For babies grow up,
we've learned to our sorrow...
So quiet down cobwebs,
Dust go to sleep,
I'm rocking my baby
And babies don't keep.
We all know our children grow up too fast!! Can't wait to see all your projects!!
Hi Julie - great pics of your baby boy. I also love quotes so much!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite quotes is "It is every moment of your life that forms the rivers you travel. whether the moments are easy or difficult, they add together to form something beautiful - they form who you are." Ronald D Bissell
I also love Dr Suess quotes - “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” I used this on a scapbook page of my daughter sat in a washing basket, and sat with a mixing bowl on her head!! Take lots of care Natasha xx
Hi Julie! Love the photos and how wonderful your baby is growing so well!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd for a quote I think this one suits me: "To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong."
Take care!
Monique

ReplyDelete“I know you've heard it a thousand times before. But it's true—hard work pays off. If you want to be good, you have to practice, practice, practice. If you don't love something, then don't do it.”

Can't wait to see all your scrappy work, it always makes me smile :) Here are a couple of my recent favorite quotes... "Live so that your friends can defend you but never have to." -Arnold Glasow & "Don’t worry that children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you." -Robert Fulghum
ReplyDeleteWhat an honor to see my words here! Thank you! I'm so flattered.
ReplyDeleteI have four or five notebooks full of quotes and poems that I've been collecting since 1985 ... I could go on all day with my favorites. I often include them on my blog! :)
But one I adore is this:
Life gives us what we need when we need it - accepting it is a whole other matter. (Pam Houston)
And ...
There is no such thing as a complete lack of order, only a design so vast as to appear unrepetitive up close. (Louise Erdrich) - hence my blog title.
xo
I love quotes and words, too. One of my favorite quotes is on my blog header:
ReplyDeleteWe do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children. It's an American Indian quote and I love it!
Can't wait to see your layouts and thanks for the great giveaway offer!
So happy everything is going well. :) One of my favorite quotes is:
ReplyDelete"To the world you may only be one person but to one person you may be the world"
It has always spoke to me.
